Women’s Way shares stories of refugee and U.S. born mothers whose lives and families were impacted by the pandemic. Join for a free video screening and discussion of stories created by these mothers from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Congo, Afghanistan and the U.S. Enjoy musical performance by Egyptian singer/songwriter Ramy Hamed.

Sign up to participate in Shaping Communities Then and Now, a digital storytelling workshop taught over 4 Saturdays in October/ November. The workshops will be held at the Beechview Library from 10:00 - 3:00. Exact dates to be determined. Participants will receive a stipend. Join us for a multicultural event to learn the stories of African and U.S.-born Americans living in Northview Heights through personal videos about life changing experiences, and a discussion of ways to create a welcoming community. Enjoy a multi-cultural experience with food, and African dance and drumming by Sankofa Village for the Arts. The event will take place in the Northview Heights gym at 533 Mt. Pleasant Avenue.

Throughout our history, political oppression, famine, violence and religious persecution have motivated people to make their way to our shores. Learn what it means to be part of the new American Dream through the experiences of individuals who have come here recently and others who, once new, are now established in our society.

This interactive exhibition, organized in conjunction with Emigration–Immigration–Migration, will grow over time, highlighting YOUR stories through writing, audio and photographs. In addition, we will feature Immigration Journeys: Old and New, a series of videos sponsored by the Allegheny County Library Association and produced at the Whitehall Public Library, in which long-term residents and newly arrived refugees and immigrants tell their stories.
